International Baseball Player & Coach Ryan Murphy Joins St. FX Academy Staff
Ryan Murphy, who has been living and playing in the SABL in Adelaide Australia, retires to return home to join our coaching staff as a full time instructor.
The 33 year old, is best known for his dominant play in the Dutch Major League, where he helped the Amsterdam Pirates to a National Championship in 2008 and he was named MVP of the series for his performance both as a pitcher and hitter. In 2009 he won league MVP and Best Pitcher awards.
Murphy began his professional career in 2005 signing with the Edmonton Cracker Cats. Murphy also played on the Edmonton Prospects under Manager Gord Gerlach — our 2015-16 Lead Teacher. That was a special summer for Murphy learning key skills under Gord’s tutelage; directly leading to signing professionally and being named Team MVP of the Prospects.
Murphy said his international experience and love for the game are some of the aspects will bring to Academy
“I’m joining a staff that is already second to none, and I think my perspective can help kids to understand what the baseball world has to offer”
Having also spent two years as an assistant coach and recruiter at Bacone College in Oklahoma; the academy is optimistic that these connections will open up an entire region of scholarship opportunities for our student athletes at St. FX.
Murphy’s career has also included playing and coaching internationally in Europe, Australia and Taiwan.
